1. Get cultured with a chatty live podcast

If you’re a die-hard fan of Slate’s popular podcast Culture Gabfest or a just a culture junkie, you’ll want to to join co-hosts Stephen Metcalf, Julia Turner, and Dana Stevens for their first-ever Chicago recording tonight at the Music Box. Throw down a little extra to attend the pre-show cocktail hour, where the show's hosts will chat you up before getting to the gab or stay after for a bonus Q & A. (Music Box Theatre, 3733 N Southport Ave, 7:30pm. $25, cocktail reception and ticket $50)

2. Explore artwork of a niche Hindu sect

The Art Institute's “Gates of the Lord: The Tradition of Krishna Paintings” throws laser focus on the visual identity of Western India’s Pushtimarg denomination. The exhibit features 100 paintings dating back to the 18th century, illuminating their rich visual tradition. Visitors will also learn about the temple town of Nathdwara in India, the center of this religious sect. (Art Institute, 111 S Michigan Ave, 10:30am–5pm. Included in regular admission $14-$25)

3. Do the Wright thing in Rockford

Clear your schedule for this month’s Wright in the Region day trip spotlighting the Laurent House, the legendary architect’s "little gem" that is an example of his Accessible Usonian design. Travel to Rockford on this handicap accessible architecture tour of Wright’s fully restored and only handicap accessible home before lunch, then continue onto his little church on the prairie at the William Pettit Chapel, one of the few he designed. The tour includes transportation and lunch, so all you need to do is sit back and enjoy. Tours depart from the Rookery at 9am. (Rookery, 209 S LaSalle St, 9am. $175, members $150)
