The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Look and listen

The Oracle’s R+J: The Vineyard reinvigorates Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in this mixed Deaf/hearing production set in late 19th-century Martha’s Vineyard. The show communicates the lovers’ chemistry as well as the complexities of culture within and between hearing and deaf communities. (Oracle Theatre, 3809 N Broadway, 8pm. Free)

2. Get out to the country

Local roots singer Robbie Fulks digs into both obscure country and not-so-obscure pop covers tonight at the Hideout. Fulks has spent much of his career recording covers of artists like Hank Williams and Gram Parsons, with a rotating cast of local guest performers at his Monday night shows. (Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave, 7pm. $10 suggested donation)

3. Laugh local

Let Chicago’s local up-and-comings provide the laughter at Logan Square’s warm and welcoming Open Mic night. Enjoy a hearty mix of open mic vets and noobs trying out their latest five minutes, or get ballsy yourself and step up to the mic in a room that will have your back, even if you bomb. (Logan Theatre, 2646 N Milwaukee Ave, 8:30pm. Free)
