The three best things to do today in Chicago

Written by
Grace Perry

1. Drink in Chicago’s live lit scene

It’s hard to tell whether there’s more creativity or beer variety at Tuesday Funk, Hopleaf’s monthly reading series. Listen to homegrown writers share their new work at the Andersonville hotspot. (Hopleaf, 5148 N Clark St, 7pm. Free)

2. Take a break from Disney movies

Show your kids a movie that isn’t Frozen at the annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. The films are kid-friendly, but folks of all ages can appreciate their artistry. (Various locations citywide. See full schedule here)

3. Stretch your mind with contemporary art

Tim Parsons and Jessica Charlesworth’s Spectacular Vernacular, featuring repurposed items from around the world, has been dazzling Chicago audiences. Catch it while it’s here. (Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St, 8am-7pm. Free)
