The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Savor the trivial things in life

Put on your thinking cap for one of the best movie trivia nights in town. Teams can be formed from up to four friends (or strangers!), the themes and questions change week to week and winners take home a gift card to the theater. (The Logan Theatre, 2646 N Milwaukee Ave, 8pm. Free)

2. Hop on the Wonderland Express

There are only a few days left to check out the Wonderland Express holiday exhibit at Chicago Botanic Gardens. This one-of-a-kind model train brings together a collection of 80 miniature Chicago city monuments and a host of kid-friendly activities like paper snowflake making and looking at snow under a microscope. Also, the gardens outdoors are adorned with nearly 750,000 shining lights. (Chicago Botanic Gardens, 1000 Lake-Cook Rd, 10am. $12, kids $10)

3. That's a rap!

If you've ever thought Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol would have been better told in a holiday rap, now's the chance to make those dreams a reality. A Q Brothers' Christmas Carol is an "ad-rap-tation" by brothers GQ and JQ that not only tells the classic Christmas tale, but also serves as a history of rap. (Chicago Shakespeare Theater, 800 E Grand Ave, 7:30pm. $30–$48)
