Vince Vaughn finally sells his Palmolive Building penthouse

After nearly five years of trying, Chicago native and funny man Vince Vaughn has finally managed to sell his sprawling penthouse in the Palmolive Building. The "frat pack" member originally put the space on the market in 2011 for an ambitious $24.7 million, just five years after buying it for $12 million. By February 2015, that price dropped to $13.9 million. And earlier this month, it was announced that the Swingers star was splitting up the three-story home into two separate penthouses, one on the 35th floor and the other encompassing the 36th and 37th floors of the building.

Now it looks like both of those units have sold for a combined $12.7 million. Both of the sales are listed as contingent, but if they go through at the current listed prices then Vaughn will get $4.2 million for the smaller penthouse and $8.5 million for the larger one. The sale of his swanky Palmolive Building pad is the latest step by Vaughn to cut his ties with Chicago. Last September, he sold his River North townhouse for $1.4 million (after reportedly never living in it).

From 1969 to 1985, Vaughn's soon-to-be-former penthouse was occupied by Playboy Enterprises (the building also used to be called the Playboy Building and had the word "PLAYBOY" spelled out in 9-foot letters on its facade), which might have sounded like a great legacy to carry on after starring in mildly chauvinistic romps like Wedding Crashers or The Break-Up. But now it appears that Vaughn is growing up and moving on to less juvenile films and homes that aren't associated with the world's most famous nudie magazine (which no longer prints photos of naked people). Heck, he starred in the disappointed second season of True Detective last year—he's too serious to live in one of Chicago's most desirable bachelor pads.
