New Year's Eve comedy shows: Toast 2014 with laughs

Ring in the new year at iO, pH or the Public House Theater, then wring out your hangover at ComedySportz.

Sure, you could ring in 2014 with a New Year's Eve concert or fancy NYE dinner specials, but several of the city's best comedy clubs are also offering holiday opportunities to chuckle into your Champagne. Check out these New Year's Eve comedy shows (plus one monster New Year's Day event).

Bye Bye Liver New Year's Eve You know you're going to drink your face off on New Year's Eve; might as well do it with comic timing. The Public House hosts a special NYE edition of its interactive sketch-comedy drinking game, followed by drinks, dancing and a midnight Champagne toast. The Public House Theatre. 9pm. $40.

The Improvised Shakespeare Company's New Year's Eve Spectacular Party like it's 1599 at the Improvised Shakespeare Company's early NYE show. iO Del Close Theater. 8pm. $25.

iO's Interactive New Year's Eve You are the star at iO's interactive year-end bash, an improv show that lets the audience play with the performers. A midnight toast happens at…well, you know. Admission also includes an open bar (beer, wine and well drinks). iO Cabaret. 10:30pm. $65.

New Year's Eve at pH pH Productions marks the end of 2013 and the one-year anniversary of its Andersonville venue with live music, raffles, an open bar (while supplies last) and a performance of its improv show Bad Advice. ph Comedy Theater. 10pm. $40–$50.

Whirled News Tonight New Year's Eve The long-running topical improv show looks back at the year in news. Admission includes a Champagne toast at you-know-when, plus an open bar (beer, wine and well). iO Del Close Theater. 10:30pm. $65.

New Year's Hangover Stand-Up Marathon Laugh away your hangover with this fourth annual New Year's Day megashow. Cody Melcher hosts the four-hour event, with a lineup scheduled to include Adam Burke, Megan Gailey, Bill Cruz, Martin Morrow, Dave Stinton, Matt Riggs, Peter-john Byrnes, Joe Kilgallon, Saurin Choksi, Kelsie Huff, Emily Lake, Sherman Edwards, Jake McKenzie, David Drake, Reena Calm, Kristin Clifford, Alexandra Tsarpalas, Prateek Srivastava, Kevin Pomeroy and Jamie Campbell.
