At two locations of Uberstein (Wrigleyville, Wicker Park), Mike Matuschka has found success with the combination of picnic tables and Hofbrau pints. Matuschka’s new bar will carry on the beer-garden tradition, but leave behind the German beer-hall theme. Named after Leader Liquors—the previous tenant in the 100-year-old building—Leader Bar caters to the Northwest Side neighborhood with occasional live music, 16 beers on tap and bar food (Angus burgers, thin-crust pizzas) from a former Martini Park chef. It’s slated to open Super Bowl weekend—perfect timing for the bar’s many flat-screen TVs. 3000 W Irving Park Rd, 773-478-2337.
