Quattro Mani Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Advertising

NO AUTOGRAPHS, PLEASE The back label of this bottle of Quattro Mani Montepulciano d’Abruzzo claims that it’s made by four Italian celebrity winemakers. You read that correctly: celebrity. Never mind that you can’t think of one, let alone four, celebrity winemakers, or that the winemakers aren’t even named on the bottle (staving off the hordes of fans, apparently). The point is, this bottle tastes like anything but a star’s wine (Coppola’s mediocre line comes to mind). It’s surprisingly smooth and easy drinking, a juicy, unpretentious quaff that has a subtle complexity. In fact, its only resemblance to a celebrity is its price and wide availability. Because what famous person these days isn’t cheap and easy? $10.79 at Sheridan-Irving L Liquor, 3944 N Sheridan Rd between Dankin St and Irving Park Rd (773-528-6753).
