Beauty Bar
This glitter-filled cocktail “hair saloon” regularly hosts LGBT-centric events, with polysexual DJ crew Queerer Park providing tunes for bumping and grinding monthly, usually on the last Friday. But weekends draw a diverse crowd of scenesters from all walks of life—and sexual orientations—mingling over specialty martinis, cheap beers and an indie, hip-hop and house soundtrack. 1444 W Chicago Ave (312-226-8828).
Chances Dances at the Hideout
This off-the-beaten-path locale usually serves up ample doses of jazz, rock and vintage Americana. But on the first Saturday of every month, when gender benders Chances Dances takes over, it becomes a den of dancing where everyone is invited to let their freak flag fly. With a revolving lineup of regular DJs, anything goes, which means you should, too. Chances Dances heads back to the Hideout on Jul 2. 1354 W Wabansia Ave (773-227-4433).
Fabulous Ladies of Fitness at Cole’s
When Jennifer Boeder and Jyl Fehrenkamp suit up for their party, expect a workout on the dance floor. As the Fabulous Ladies of Fitness, this spandex-rocking duo loves to showcase its nostalgia for ’80s pop culture on the second Thursday of the month. With a different theme monthly—that usually involves some form of Jazzercize—it’s a rainbow affair, if you catch our drift. Next workout takes place Jul 14. 2338 N Milwaukee Ave (773-276-5802).
The Scene at the Shrine
A joint effort between B.Blyss! Productions, High Society, the G-List Society and bloggers the LesBiFriends, the Scene at the Shrine is the South Side dance mecca’s first LGBT-geared party. While typical nights here can skew heavily toward the hetero, this weekly Thursday-night party in the club’s Sinibar Lounge brings the two worlds together with the same poppin’ soundtrack the club is known for. 2109 S Wabash Ave (312-753-5700).
