When the dead of winter brings frigid temperatures to Chicago, wrapping yourself in cozy blankets and witnessing mind-melting guitar solos are two good ways to stay warm. The Hideout's 10th annual Psych Fest offers plenty of the latter, spread out across three days of concerts that showcase heady local sounds, accompanied by trippy projections from Liquid Sky Light Show. On Thursday, January 31 genre-hopping experimental trio Mako Sica team up with percussionist Hamid Drake for a collaborative set. Local rockers Dead Rider headline the festival on Friday, February 1, with support from heavy psych act Plastic Crimewave Syndicate and avant-garde punks ONO. Finally, jazz-fusion combo Dos Santos closes out the fest on Sunday, February 2.
