I would have liked to see more adventuresome programming from the CSO in its 2014/15 season announcement this week, but nonetheless, the hometown band does a phenomenal job of wrangling the world’s best soloists to our shores. Daniil Trifonov left a trail of dead at the Tchaikovsky and Rubinstein competitions, musically-speaking, winning first prize in both and catapulting himself into the upper ranks of piano soloists. Making his debut at Symphony Center this month, Trifonov arrives with Schumann, Stravinsky and Debussy, but I am buzzing to see him get all up inside Ravel’s Miroirs.
