Time Out says

Fire Shut Up in My Bones, a memoir from New York Times columnist Charles Blow, is transformed into a three-act opera in this moving adaptation by composer Terence Blanchard and librettist Kasi Lemmons. The story, which follows Charles (Ryan Opera center alum Will Liverman) and his traumatic upbringing in 1970s-era rural Louisiana, is an examination of both one man's coming-of age and the Black experience in America—to poignant and often heart-wrenching effect.
