On his debut album Smiling with No Teeth, Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu drifts through genres as if he's flipping through pages in a magazine, exploring hip-hop, funk, pop and rock in rapid succession. Blessed with a versatile voice that can spit rhymes or croon melodies (often over the course of a single song), Owusu's lyrics confront the importance of mental health, resilience in uncertain times and racial inequality. Backed by a live band (including his producer Andrew Klippel, of Australian dance-pop group Euphoria), Owusu headlines Schubas, after this set at the Tomorrow Never Knows festival was postponed.
