The Riv is generally considered to be the sister rock club to the Aragon, a couple of blocks away. With a capacity of around 2,500, the jazz-age theater isn’t quite as big as its neighbor, but the acoustics are much better. You might catch someone like MGMT or Edward Sharpe here. Those afraid of heights should probably give the steep balcony seating a miss.

This venue reminds me of the Orpheum in Madison, WI. Since I went to college there, I have plenty of fond memories at the Orpheum. I saw Rufus Du Sol at The Riv, and immediately fell in love with it. The acoustics are great, and there's plenty of room on the balcony. Not to mention the view from the balcony is incredible.

Will for sure be coming back here!

I saw a Purity Ring show at Riviera and was so impressed with the sound quality there! It is a smaller space and has the same historic design as Aragon Ballroom but it creates a more intimate feeling for a mid-sized venue. Also, the lighting display was excellent and could be enjoyed even from the back of the main floor. My only concern was security seemed to be pretty aggressive and unnecessarily physical with rowdy patrons they were removing from the venue. I've seen this handled better at other locations.
