Sam Smith walked onto stage wearing a dark blue suit and the silver cross earrings that have made an appearance in a number of his music videos. Stepping up with swagger, he picked up the microphone and wooed the audience with his soft voiced, genuine style. Starting with title-track from his EP Nirvana, his only released music to date, the 21 year old encouraged a sold out crowd to dance along to the upbeat, swaying rhythms made all the better by velvety vocals and sweeping riffs.
Smith floated through a wide range of notes seemingly without effort, punctuating with powerful moments of blue-eyed belting. He ended each song with a soft "Thank you" and boyish smile. Before starting a new piece, there was typically a story to lure the audience—sometimes we don't fall in love with people that are available; other times we drunkenly express ourselves, for example. Life happens. And thus, he delivered a show that equally entertaining as relevant to the packed house of romantic fans.
Smith finished an encore with most recent single "Stay With Me." His debut album In the Lonely Hour drops June 17, 2014.
