Talking about Chive Fest requires first explaining what the Chive is. The Chive, or theCHIVE, is a website, mostly just a blog. The name is a bit of a riff on the Onion, but allegedly also a portmanteau of Chicago and Venice Beach. "Chivettes" is what they call the amateur female models who post selfies to the Chive. Think Maxim. The Chive is known primarily for these mild girls gone wild, Internet hoaxes and philanthropy. It is owned by a company called Resignation LLC.
Anyway, theCHIVE managed to quietly put together a solid one-day music festival in downtown Chicago—with help from C3, the folks behind Lollapalooza. Empire of the Sun, Matt & Kim, 2 Chainz, Neon Indian, Holy Ghost, Rebirth Brass Band and Kitten all played outside of Soldier Field, where Spring Awakening threw down a couple weeks ago. That's a nice little grab-bag of modern pop. Future dates in Seattle, Denver and Dallas have roped in acts like Washed Out, Girl Talk.
We were there to snap photos of the Chivers and Chivettes chiving down to the sweet Chive vibes.
