Time Out says

The Lyric Opera takes on Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti's two-act comedy, The Elixer of Love, which follows a poor waiter who longs for the affection of the town's hotel owner. Knocking back a love potion (which is actually a bottle of wine), the waiter drunkenly pursues his employer, hoping that the concoction will win her over. The new-to-Chicago production is directed by Daniel Slater, marking his Lyric Opera debut.
