After two years of working from home, returning to the grind of commuting to the Loop—fighting delays and long coffee lines and pigeons and existential dread—is an adjustment, to say the least. But the weather's warming up, which means more opportunities to eat lunch outside and feel the sun on your face. And the downtown crowd will have a few more options for an impromptu Loop picnic as the Chicago Food Truck Festival returns to Daley Plaza on Fridays starting May 20.

The weekly fest runs through October from 11am to 3pm and will feature a variety of eateries on wheels for your sampling. The city has yet to release the lineup, but you can keep an eye out for the announcement on the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages in the coming weeks. Recent participants have included A Sweet Girl cupcakes, decadent sandwich purveyors The Fat Shallot, local icons Harold's Chicken, Lawrence's Fish & Shrimp and German-Turkish street food slingers DönerMen.

Below are the Friday dates for the 2022 Chicago Food Truck Fest:

  • May 20, 27
  • June 3, 10, 17, 24
  • July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
  • August 5, 12, 19, 26
  • September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
  • October 7
