1. Young singer-songwriter Greta Simone Kline has released dozens of self-recorded albums and EPs under a variety of pseudonyms, but the New York native’s full-band project Frankie Cosmos stands out. They play Lincoln Hall tonight with support from indie pop act Florist and Chicago duo Lala Lala. The all-ages show starts at 7pm; tickets are $18.

2. Writer-director Paul Schrader, a two-time Golden Globe nominee as the screenwriter of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, will be in attendance for the Chicago Critics Film Festival advance screening of his new feature First Reformed, which stars Ethan Hawke as a conflicted small-town pastor. The screening is at 7:15pm at the Music Box Theatre, with a Q&A to follow; tickets are $15.

3. See works by Japanese artists Onchi Kōshirō and Saitō Kiyoshi, who championed the sōsaku hanga (“creative prints”) movement, in the Art Institute’s exhibit “Modern Japanese Portraits.” It’s included with the price of admission to the museum; hours today are 10:30am to 5pm.
