1. Look for clusters of men (and some women) roaming downtown streets in harnesses and chaps this weekend. The International Mr. Leather competition and convention is celebrating its 40th year in Chicago, with many of its events centered on the Congress Hotel and the Auditorium Theatre. You don’t have to be a registered attendee to expand your horizons with a visit to the Leather Market at the hotel; admission is $15 for the day.

2. Sample local craft beers along the Milwaukee and Elston corridors on the Northwest Side Craft Beer Ride, organized by Lake Effect Brewing. A $20 ticket covers your fare for a keg-shaped brew bus, which will be running a loop between 6pm and midnight to eight different bars each featuring a local brewery; you’ll need to cover your own drinks.

3. A young woman and a young man, looking for more than their families can give them, encounter otherworldly forces in De Troya, an urban fairy tale by playwright Caridad Svich. Halcyon Theatre stages the Chicago premiere, which opens tonight at 8pm and continues through June 30. Tickets are $20 in advance for guaranteed admission, while a third of the seats are offered free for walk-ups on a first-come, first-served basis.
