This always-bustling Greek spot is popular for good reason: The food is inexpensive, you get it fast, and it tastes great. The signature artopitas—flaky puff-pastry rounds with fillings like ham and kasseri cheese or chicken and mozzarella—take center stage, but there are also fresh salads, sandwiches and traditional Greek dishes like roasted lamb and a weekly regional special. Bonus: The front that overlooks Halsted Street is perfect for people-watching.

When I worked nearby, Artopolis was a favorite lunch spot of mine. My go-to was the field greens salad with chicken (which comes with a side bread basket) and I always left happy, full, and feeling good about my healthy choice. Serving sizes are plentiful and there's a good number of options for standard lunch choices (salad, sandwiches, soup) but also authentic Greek food as well. The reason for 4/5 stars instead of 5 is the confusion of how and where to order. Sometimes I'd go in and they'd tell me to grab a seat and I'd have a server. Other times I ordered at the counter and I couldn't tell what the timing was that distinguished between the two styles.

Tip: plan to grab a couple cookies at the bakery counter on the way out.
