Bites Asian Tapas

Despite the cutesy names (can anyone seriously order "sexy shrimp" with a straight face?) the pan-Asian joint is a better-than-decent spot for satisfying tonkotsu ramen, avocado tempura folded into pillowy buns and fiery garlic-chile edamame. The cocktails, like the Gentlemen’s Wood, a mango-laced Old Fashioned, are easy-drinking, and the cozy fireplace table is ideal for freezing nights (so's the spicy miso ramen.)

My initial impression wasn't the best. We were looking for a sushi place nearby with lunch specials. After consulting Yelp, we determined Bites was our best bet. It was an extremely hot day and as soon as we walked in, we were hit with stuffy heat. They didn't have the air on.

It was about 1:30pm and there was one other table there. I noticed they had a patio, but it was too hot to get up and explore. The restaurant was dark and the booth looked a little beat up, but further in was a really cute, eclectic mix of furniture, lighting and a hidden bar.

I was disappointed that the lunch special was a $4 drink. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate an afternoon cocktail, especially when it's on special, but this wasn't the day for that. Service was a little bit slow, especially considering we eventually became the only table.

Now with all of that said, the crab rangoons came out and they were the best I've ever had in my life. The avocado bao was out of this world. The taro chips were a really cool take on a french fry. The sushi was all very good. For all of that, our total for two people was $43; which is about what I would have expected. Room for improvement? Sure, but the food stands out and that's my main concern. Great little find!

Friends and I recently had an amazing time at Bites for brunch - I feel like we stumbled onto a secret that not many people know about (and I kinda don't want them to know!). They have a bottomless mimosa package (although the vibe was definitely classier than the typical drunken messes that bottomless can create) and a back patio that is perfect as summer approaches.

The food was also excellent. My chicken & waffles are pictured below - that green waffle was amazing. My table also started with spicy crab rangoon (rave reviews), samosas (my favorite), and garlic edamame (a HUGE portion). I definitely plan to return... and bring more friends so we can try even more food!
