What would a soda fountain be without an outdoor spot from which to watch the world go by? Late-night hours (till 11pm weekdays, midnight weekends) mean you can take in nocturnal antics while sipping a caffeinated “cream express” milkshake (vanilla and espresso). Or go earlier in the evening, grab a scoop of the Lakeview Barhopper (chocolate ice cream with Jack Daniel’s), and get a jump on the night’s festivities.

Bow down to Bobtail!
This place is delicious, nostalgic, and so worth the trip. It's your classic soda fountain location with your favorite flavors plus a few surprises. I took my little sister with me, who loved the Lakeview Barhopper, which is a rich Dutch cocoa ice cream blended with Jack Daniels. I opted for the Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel which was also stellar - not too salty or sweet, very balanced. It's the perfect spot for summer! It can get super crowded at night, so I recommend going in the afternoon if you want a chance to sit down and relax a bit.
It might not be as hip as Jeni's, but Bobtail is the kind of place where you probably ate ice cream as a kid, with all the kitschy soda counter trappings and the standard flavors you love. Plus, they have cones dipped in chocolate and coated in sprinkles. But, I'd argue that the best way to consume Bobtail's frozen cream is with a straw—the shakes are liquid goodness.
