Bongo Room

Time Out says

It took exactly two minutes for this outpost of the Bongo Room to attract the kind of crowds the Wicker Park location gets, and while we aren’t about to wait two hours for eggs Benedict, we will concede that on a random Tuesday afternoon, this place is a nice pit stop for lunch. The space is pleasant and sunny, the sandwiches are big, flavorful and messy, the service is sweet and the patio looks swell. Red velvet pancakes don’t taste like much of anything, but you’re here for lunch, remember? You can eat pancakes at home.

I have been beating myself up for having never been here since I've lived fairly close for the last seven years. Mind blown. Truly a robust menu. Service was a bit more theatrical than I tend to like in the morning, but also great.

Seriously, the food was on point! Food forward, yes! It's a great space to highlight the food. The kitchen is open. Lots of great neutrals in a bright. The area is a great open space. Seating is plentiful. I just found it to be a very wlll oiled machine.

Server recommended a benedict. Not suprising, the Lobster Crab Sandwich. Holy hell, that is some seriously incredible food. Then we went with a single order of White Chocolate Pretzel Pancakes. This was a server recommendation. Best Pancake I've Ever Had!

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Chicago. We stumbled on it years ago thrift shopping in Wicker Park when a local recommended it. It's sort of a hole in the wall, but there's always a wait. They only serve breakfast and lunch since they close at 2:30, so I'd try both (or at least pair whatever you order with one of their delicious pancakes). It's basically a desert. My favorites are the pear pancake, and their top seller: white chocolate and caramel pretzel. There's a location in the loop that's equally as good, but I prefer the Wicker Park ambiance.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Chicago, and the place I take all of my out-of-town visitors to impress. I've never had a bad meal at TBR, and that's saying something since I've been coming here with my mom since the late 1990s. In fact, we just went today for Mother's Day brunch. When you go, you have to order the white chocolate and caramel pretzel pancakes (permanently on "special" there), plus one of their breakfast burritos. Today I tried the shrimp and black bean breakfast burrito and it was incredible. Bongo Room, I love you foreva.

I love almost everything on their menu. They have so many great sweet and savory options it makes me want to order both. Sometimes the wait can be crazy on the weekends so definitely make a reservation!
