Holding strong in the middle of an industrialish residential ’hood is the mother of all breakfast haunts. It’s like Granny’s cozy kitchen but with the morning news flowing via a stream of chatty city employees, businessmen and convivial construction workers. They start the day on whole-wheat pancakes, football-size omelettes and biscuits with gravy. Lunch stays on the heavy side with bowls of beef stew and thick, delicious sandwiches. Since everything is made from scratch, doors close promptly at 3pm so the staff can prep the next day’s fare.
