Chicago Diner

Boystown's famed vegetarian diner opened this second location in Logan Square with the same food, but more booze. Brunch is a madhouse—people love those big, doughy cinnamon rolls, we guess. We're skipping the rolls and going for the vegan pancakes (dense, but nice flavor), a tofu scramble or—if we're feeling ovo-lacto—a Mexican bowl of rice, guac, black beans and eggs.

I'm not a vegetarian, but Chicago Diner is one of my favorite restaurants in Logan Square (especially when I'm craving seitan). The nachos are great-- you can get them with non-dairy cheez or actual cheese. The milkshakes are amazing too!

Don't visit Chicago without stopping by the Chicago Diner for a meal or two!  I went there for brunch and lunch-- two separate days, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't go there twice in one day -- and it was amazing!  Great coffee, meals, service, and ambiance.  It's a perfect diner! For brunch, I got the cinnamon roll, coffee, juice, and steak and eggs.  Even if you were to just go there for the cinnamon roll, it would be so worth it, and you'd never want to leave!  The meals that I saw going by my table looked so good that I really couldn't decide what to order.  When I went there for lunch, I got the mac & cheese -- OH MY GOD-- so good!  You'll want to dive into that little bowl and swim around!  Delicious!  I got a veggie burger with bacon and cheese, and it was divine.  I got some onions fried on top too.  Wow!  You will NOT be disappointed if you go here.  My mouth is watering as I type this review.  Must. Get. Back. To. Chicago. Diner. :) When I was there, I bumped into the vegan writer, Kristin Lajeunesse too!  And I had her book in my bag that she had just signed a few weeks prior.  It was great to see her there in one of the places that she wrote about in her book about travelling the US and dining at many great vegan restaurants!

Do you want the best vegetarian food in Chicago. OK, no problem, you've come to the right place. Everyone gets the Reuben and the reason is it's freaking delicious. So is...nearly everything on the menu though. While sandwiches and entrees take up the majority of the menu, do not—I repeat, do not—overlook the milkshakes. I would come here just for one of those.

As a vegetarian, I know I can always count on getting an amazing (and filling!) meal at Chicago Diner. The waitstaff is all incredibly friendly, and food comes out quickly—and it's delicious. The space is great. It's a good place for any evening out, whether you're on a date or taking your parents to dinner. Brunch is amazing too!
