Chilapan (CLOSED)

This colorful outpost of the popular Logan Square spot is about 300 percent bigger than the original, but the creamy guac—made to order as spicy as you like—is pretty much the same. That's good news, because Chilapan has built a reputation for excellently cooked proteins and flavorful sauces (see: the tender pork shoulder in a spicy citrus sauce that is the cochinita pibil). The plates follow a starch-protein-sauce algorithm that can feel a little cafeteria-ish. But, really, would a BYOB cafeteria with great Mexican food be all that bad?
