We know that the pastry case at this Guatemalan bakery—with its rows of golden pound cakes, muffins and cookies—seems like the draw here. But on the wall behind the counter is a small dry-erase board, and on it a list of savory dishes. Order the sumptuous tamales with a center of tender, well-seasoned chicken; excellent chile relleno stuffed with a complex filling of chopped pork, onion and carrot; and rellenitos, a fried plantain dumpling stuffed with beef. Don’t get us wrong, the pound cake is good, but the savory dishes are the reason to return.
