Home Run Inn has come highly recommended to me by several folk, upon finding out my intense and lifelong love affair with all things pizza. So I've been eager to try it since I arrived in Chicago in February of this year. I decided to wait, however, for a visit from my partner-in-pizza.
Now, our favorite pizza --uncontested--of all time, is the chain Jet's Pizza, out of Detroit. We find it to be perfection.
So my friend arrived for his Chicago weekend and we decided to skip the deep dish, and head for the Home Run. He ordered the soft pretzels to start and he absolutely loved them. I sampled them as well and found them completely tasty, but unnecessary (I like to save the carb space for my beloved pizza).
I allowed my friend to choose the toppings as my only rule there is no pineapple. He chose ham. Whatever. When the pizza arrived we actually didn't SEE any ham. But the pizza was fantastic. There's something about Home Run Inn, a statement I've heard many times from Chicagoans, and now know to be true. It's very good and something I'll find myself craving, I'm sure.
ALSO: in the time between my moving here and my friends visit, I did have the opportunity to try a frozen, personal size Home Run Inner... and it was ... incredible. Hands down the best frozen pizza experience I've ever had, and I usually would rather just skip frozen pizza altogether.
