I was craving a honey walnut shrimp dish for my birthday dinner. I've
had it at several other places, that for whatever reason when faced with
the challenge of coming up with somewhere to order dinner for the
family completely escaped my memory and then of course the task of
coming up with somewhere to order from becomes one of the most
pressure-filled decisions one must make.
I went to Grubhub and
used honey shrimp as the search keyword and low and behold, House of Wah
Sun pops up. Being the ultimate Yelp fan that I am, I based my big
decision on the location with the highest reviews. Hate to say it, but I
feel as though either my fellow Yelpers steered me wrong OR by
comparison to the other places that came up, this one rose to the top.
The latter option is just depressing because I was so underwhelmed and
slightly disappointed with every single dish we ordered including my
much discussed honey walnut shrimp.
Everything was very heavily
breaded. My dish was way more greasy breading than shrimp. I'm not
fooled by your bed of shredded iceberg lettuce. I know there isn't a ton
of shrimp here and the sauce while is creamy as the description
suggests is more or less mayonnaise with honey. Now I am educated enough
to know that is exactly what the sauce is comprised of, but done well
enough I shouldn't be able to come to that conclusion in the first bite.
So I guess my search for a decent honey walnut shrimp continues.
