This place is PACKED on the weekend but I went here for dinner it was like a whole other world. I wouldn't recommend the flatbreads but everything else is great! Definitely opt for a cocktail over beer and wine.
Hutch is a "new american" neighborhood joint in Lakeview with a lot of specials including $12 steak frites on Tuesdays and $10 plate du jour on Mondays . I had gone about 5 years ago with some girlfriends and recall the food being better, especially the steak. We went early to dinner on a Tuesday because I had a gilt dining credit here, where the diners were mostly families and a few couples. The bar was pretty busy; the food is ok and the service was good. The standout of dinner was the gin blossom martini. This was a well balanced and solid drink. The steak frites were average; the fries reminded me of steak and shake fries. The meat needed to be seasoned more and were a little over cooked, rendering them to an almost rubbery consistency. The grill marks were pretty decent. The pork belly meatballs were served in a strange white sauce, and were decent. The grilled bread was underwhelming. All in all, an average dining experience (2 stars for the food) and an extra half star for the service. Our server TJ was very nice and attentive. I'm not sure we'd return anytime soon.
