Many old-school sushi lovers—the kind who scoff at new-age maki—consider this two decades-old Evanston spot the best sushi place around. We wouldn’t go quite that far, but we do love the generous pieces of superfresh nigiri (especially the melt-in-your-mouth toro). The simple maki—yellowtail with scallions, salmon skin—are satisfying, too, but other Japanese standards are a little ho-hum. Still, prices are reasonable, service is friendly and the atmosphere is no-frills—a perfect combination for indulging sushi cravings without breaking the bank.
