The French penchant for bread, ham and cheese is on display at this stall in the French Market from LM Restaurant owner Stephan Outrequin Quaisser. You can have jambon on a buttered baguette (and top it off with whole-grain mustard or garlic aioli), but the simple ingredients are most rewarding in the form of the croque-monsieur—a double-decker ham-and-cheese sandwich spread with mayonnaise and toasted into a buttery beauty in a press. (Though we have to admit: Something about the instant, cheesy, buttery gratification of this version feels very, awesomely American.)
