Time Out says

Bring a Sharpie and an appetite for burgers and pan pizza when you hit this University of Chicago hangout. Patrons have left poetry and political rants on the Med’s booths since it opened in 1963. Among the surprisingly good takes on typical student fare are specialty burgers and shakes, as well as great late-night salads. Go for the simple but classic Ensalata Kimba—blue cheese, apples, red peppers and pecans over crisp romaine. The restaurant also serves freshly baked pastries from its sister bakery next door.

Medici has consistently good food at reasonable prices. Their bakery and deli sandwiches are excellent. Sometimes it's noisy and the service isn't top notch, but for locals, you know what to expect.

Still going strong after 50 years! The Bakery is a great addition of top-notch breads and pastries.

Their spinach and goat cheese pizza is to die for. The Favorite Phone Numbers on my phone are: my parents, my boyfriend... and the Med.

Medici is the best spot in the neighborhood. They deliver and offer multiple styles of on site dining. Anytime someone from another neighborhood or from it of town wants a taste of Hyde Park we have to start at Medici and no one is ever disappointed.

My go to restaurant. I love the variety on the menu. The breakfast sammie( bacon, egg, cheese) on croissant and their pizza is my favorite! And the staff is really nice.

I have been going to Medici for over 30 years when I lived in the burbs. Now I live near north in the city and have my doctors at the University of Chicago. When I go to U of C Medical Campus I make sure that I stop at the Medici Deli next door to the restaurant to buy their AWESOME freshly baked breads and maybe a sandwich or a pie or tart.

What concerns me is that I have just read (May 2016) an article that U of C is selling a bunch of properties INCLUDING the property that houses Medici and the Medici Deli

I hope that this doesn't mean that Medici will disappear or move far, far away.

One of my favorite places to eat near the University of Chicago campus! Salads, pizza, burgers, etc. are great but don't leave without trying their guacamole! Also, ignore the calories and finish your meal with a Mexicana shake or slice of pecan pie - you won't regret it. Whether you are stopping by for a quick bite at the bakery or engaging in intellectual conversation in a graffiti'd booth, you'll enjoy your visit.

I love a good sandwich, and what really makes it special is the bread! It has to be fresh and it has to be paired with the perfect meat and cheeses. I absolutely adore this space and the lunch selections. From the soups to to the pizza and sandwhiches its truly a gem to Hyde Park and great stop for a quick bite or coffee and little convo.
