Of the signs that litter the walls of this takeout soul-food shop, the most important is not the one telling you not to loiter or eat in the waiting area; it’s the sign boasting more than a decade in business. For a corner with not much else going for it, that’s a big achievement. Of course, the reason this place has survived is no secret: from the split and buttered biscuits to the slightly sweet yellow turnips to the custardy buttermilk pie, this is simple, down-home food that nobody can argue with, much less stop eating.
