Large families and bleary-eyed couples fill this place on Saturday and Sunday mornings for a hearty buffet of thick bacon, sausage links, oniony potatoes, French toast and made-to-order omelettes—plus Caribbean specialties like rice flecked with pigeon peas and tortilla boricua, a layered casserole of eggs, sausage, sweet plantains, cheese and green peppers. Have a glass of OJ or a cup of coffee with the sweet ending of cinnamon-spiked coconut oatmeal.

Nellie's has to be the most criminally underrated brunch joint in Chicago that no one knows about outside of the Puerto Rican community. "Puerto Rican brunch" features some of the most original and tasty breakfast creations I've ever had. Their El Coqui breakfast sandwich, featuring your choice of meat, eggs, veggies, and tasty special sauce is incredible; not to mention massive. The Puerto Rican omelet that is cooked with baked plantains inside is another great pick. Always make sure to get a side of cinnamon/coconut oatmeal on the side - I personally enjoy taking it to go, refrigerating it, and eating it as a dessert later. There's a reason this place is packed with Puerto Rican families every weekend - definitely come here instead of some of the more overrated, overpriced brunch places in Wicker or UKV.
