Ramen Misoya

Restaurants, Japanese Streeterville

Ramen Misoya opened nearly a year ago in River North, bringing the ultimate miso education to Chicago. Here you learn about both gold and silver miso broth, the base of the ramen. Order a "normal" ramen bowl for less than $10 with silver or gold miso, but we like gold the best—the broth is thicker, with a heartier and meatier taste. With a nice bite, the noodles pull the ramen dish together into a warm bowl perfect for a chilly afternoon.

I was super excited to try this spot because I've always heard great things about its original IL location--which was sometimes even considered to be the best ramen in the state. This chain is from Japan, so you can already guess that it's pretty authentic. I tried the silver ramen bowl, and while it was still great, I kind of wish I would have tried the thicker, saltier gold ramen or else even the Tokyo ramen (which my friend ordered and looked insane). I like that you can customize your toppings here! I did the corn and the fried shrimp, which was fun for something different. No alcohol here--bummer. Otherwise, amazing overall.

If you're looking for a quick place to get warmed up with a bowl of ramen, this is your spot! Nothing fancy at all about the restaurant, but it is a delicious meal. I chose the veggie miso ramen with gold broth which was thick and full of veggies like bamboo shoots, sprouts, carrot, onion. I also added a perfectly cooked egg. Our server was attentive and prompt, and the bowls are relatively affordable.
