While famed Southern cook Edna Lewis has passed, the staff that served by her side for more than 40 years has taken over the legendary Edna’s Restaurant and renamed it for the current woman in charge. The matriarch is missed, but the food doesn’t miss a beat: Fried chicken is seasoned to the marrow with a mix of spices, and collard greens and string beans are cooked to perfection (read: They aren’t the texture of wet tissue paper). Even Edna’s signature biscuits are executed with ease—a true memorial if we’ve ever seen one.
