As an amazing, new edition to the Chicago culinary scene, Tastemaker Chicago celebrates the latest and greatest in Chicago. The chef collaborations was a unique twist on giving some of the most renowned chefs in Chicago the spotlight. The Fat Rice and Lula Cafe collaboration on a gazpacho that featured peach "bacon" was other worldly. I will say that the highlight dish of the event was the mushroom taco that was presented by Barrio. The gazpacho from Margeaux Brasserie was also a hit. Overall, the event was a great experience that featured Chicago chef's and businesses.

This event was a wonderful representation of the Chicago culinary scene. With unique dishes and spectacular mixology happening all around you, it felt like the Culinary Olympics. Some excellent talent from restaurants that are well renowned in Chicago like Fat Rice and Lula Cafe came together in these crazy cool collaborations to create things I've never heard of or would think would be good, Peach Gazpacho was out of this world. The vibe was cool and open in a great space. Awesome time at an incredible event, Tastemaker Chicago needs to come back soon!

For its first year in Chicago, I’d say overall this event was a success. With lots of space and plenty of food and drink, it was easy and fun to navigate the different tables sampling and talking with the chefs (who might not otherwise be available). I recommend doing a quick pass to plan a strategy for the foods you want to try most before you get too full. Personal favorites for me were the boiled shrimp dumplings with green tomato broth and corn butter by Abe Conlon (Fat Rice) and Jason Hammel (Lula Cafe), the BBQ rabbit unagi by BLVD and the ube cookie with sweet corn ice cream by Warm Belly Bakery. I must give a shout out to sponsor, Capital One, for their innovative sangria pear cloud cone which was not only delicious, but totally Instagram worthy. I will definitely be back next year!

There are many ways I could describe this event, but ’sexy (really, though) food hall full of unlimited delicious food/drink samples, great music and incredibly inventive pairings (Fat Rice x Lula Cafe, and Toronto’s Antler x Blackbird were utterly drool inducing collabs)’ seems the best, albeit wordy, choice. I don’t know why you’d be on the fence about attending this event, but if you are just do it. Really. It is an incredible way to dive into the Chicago ‘food scene’, and a hell of a deal.
