Silver Palm

If you’ve been in a train’s dining car recently, you know the menu ranges from Doritos to Ruffles and most of the clientele is passed out with cans of Bud Light at their feet. Thankfully, this dining car is nothing like that. The menu includes gems like light, crispy calamari and a club sandwich with sliced duck breast and prosciutto. Skip the jumbo shrimp and be aware that service can be slow, but the sweet, caramelly apple pie is a must. Perfectly made classic cocktails come from the attached bar, the Matchbox.

I wouldn't have even cared if the food was bad - I got to dine in a vintage train cart! How cool is that? I've been to the Silver Palm twice now, and the food is phenomenal. This restaurant is best known for their meat-lovers sandwich, the Three Little Piggy (with double smoked ham, pork tenderloin and bacon). Besides the service being a little slow, this place does not disappoint. It's exactly what you would picture for an actual 1947 train cart - a narrow aisle, low ceilings and small tables. It's very intimate, and a nice break from any downtown restaurant. You can finish your evening with drinks at a tiny bar downstairs called The Matchbox.
