Umai offers authentic Japanese food in a modern setting. Sake barrels and beautiful murals cover the walls and you can see sushi chefs behind the glass making everything fresh right in front of you. Umai is great because you can get some of the freshest raw fish possible in Chicago. Not only is the presentation of everything beautiful, but the food tastes even better. Start off with the mushroom soup, age-dashi tofu and the goma-ae chilled spinach. Must have dishes include the tonkatsu ramen, katsu don and the omakase sashimi platter. Umai also has outdoor seating which is scarce in the South Loop. The service, ambiance and delicious food are always top notch and keeps me coming back.
