The fancy taco spot's first location outside of Texas is this Gold Coast outpost. Expect pork belly, calamari and falafel tacos alongside classics like chicken, fish and shredded pork. There's a margarita, wine and beer, and if you go to the back entrance, you can get a build-your-own-taco package for $20. The counter spot will also have a Chicago specific dish, the Chicago Haute Dog taco, which piles pork belly with pickles, pickled fresnos, mustard, tomato, red onion, poppy seed and celery salt.

Velvet taco is an amazing spot for vegetarians to get their taco fix!! This menu is pretty untraditional but included my favorite Fried Paneer taco with tomato chutney and tikka sauce! I also loved the Nashville hot tofu which was spicy and perfect topped with buttermilk ranch crema and briney pickles. Totally affordable and quick service compared to other dining options in the Gold Coast too.

This place is just down the street from my apartment so the convenience factor is a huge bonus. There are a lot of different taco options and most of the ones i've tried are pretty good. The margaritas are outstanding but their soda machine is filled with non traditional sodas. I would definitely recommend to someone who is in the area and wants something fast.

Being a pescetarian, I'm generally skeptical of going to taco places since there aren't very many options for me unless I want battered fish. However, velvet taco is a breath of fresh air. I usually get the paneer tacos. One of my favorite things about Velvet Taco is the fountain soda machine. This isn't your regular Pepsi or Coca Cola fountain soda machine. These are all sodas I've never heard of.
