Via Carducci La Sorella

Sister to the popular Via Carducci in Lincoln Park, this spot is just as packed as the neighboring eateries on Division, with crowds pouring in to dig in to red-sauce favorites. Some dishes miss, like paper-thin eggplant overloaded with goat cheese and marinara and a caprese salad made with some not-so-summery-looking tomatoes. But others are right on the mark: linguine frutti di mar has a garlicky bite and is studded with plump shrimp, clams, mussels and calamari; meatballs and thin-crust pizza would do any nonni proud.

Living in Ukrainian Village, you have multitudes of options for Italian cuisine. Heck, there are five or so Italian restaurants on this stretch of Division and Damen!  This one has become my go-to, default date spot when I'm tired from a week of work or just don't have any original thought process. They always have delicious specials, good deals on wine and beer, and a great lunch.

Some of my specific favorites include the garlic pasta with pine nuts and pork bits, the lobster ravioli, chicken cacciatore, and linguini with clams. Most of these were weekly specials throughout the course of the year. This place is owned by actual Italian immigrants, so my expectations were high! They have never disappointed me and I will continue to frequent this wonderful little cafe.

My favorite, local dining spot when I want something casual yet romantic. It's that perfect sweet spot! And, the wait staff is wonderful. I love that they always give us "our table". Little things like that will always make me fall in love with a place.
