Old Orchard's new "dining experience" is a glorified food court not unlike Water Tower's Foodlife, where beleaguered shoppers mill about 18 stations serving nearly every type of cuisine imaginable. On looks alone, the shiny 30,000-square-foot complex is something to behold. The food, however, is barely above cafeteria quality, with many of the signature items (such as a giant potato pancake called rosti, served with un-crisp schnitzel) resting under heat lamps and served at room temperature. Anything made to order (such as customizable stir-fry) is the way to go, or stick with one thing meant to be served cold: housemade gelati in flavors like blackberry and stracciatella.
