29 toilet-paper-roll holders

ON A ROLL Needing a spare square of toilet paper is never a problem in the first-floor men’s restroom at Architectural Artifacts (4325 N Ravenswood Ave, 773-348-0622): A couple of walls in the single-stall bathroom are covered with 29 toilet-paper-roll holders. The wall didn’t start out as a complete installation, though. “I bought a really fancy one in Buenos Aires and used it as the paper holder in the men’s bathroom,” owner Stuart Grannen says. “Then I bought others and decided to hang them all up.” And the collection is still growing. Grannen says dealers and customers know about his functional art collection and bring him holders. “Plus, when I travel, I keep my eyes out for them and buy them when possible.” Re-creating the look in your bathroom is easy; just start looking for interesting holders and attach them to the wall. Who knows, maybe Grannen could help you get started. “I don’t sell the pieces, but I’ll give them away to worthy folks if I have a duplicate.”
