Adorned with superheroes drawn by G-Man artist Chris Giarrusso, this Logan Square/Bucktown storefront is immediately recognizable as a shop that is serious about comics. You'll usually find owners W. Dal Bush and Patrick Brower manning the counter in a shirt and tie, presiding over a selection of graphic novels that ranks among the city's best. The walls are lined with the latest issues while a separate room houses comics and toys for kids. If you like gabbing about comics as much as you love reading them, the store's month discussions allow you to join the conversation.

The friendliest comic shop in Chicago. No mansplaining, no "comic book guys," just a really friendly staff excited to help you, and to recommend your next favorite comic book.
Beautiful shop, nice friendly and knowledgeable staff. This is the place to go for all things comics and pop culture.
The cleanest, most inviting comic store in the city. They are totally invested in the community of comics and helping new readers find books they will love. They have a very comprehensive collection and their staff is super knowledgable.
Patrick and Dal are literally the best shop owners. Not only are they super knowledgeable about their product they take the time to learn about their customers, recommend comics and truly have the best interests of their customers at heart. I drove across the city to buy my comics from them for years even though I lived near three other shops because challengers is that good! Been a customer for almost 6 years and showing no sign of stopping!
World class Eisner winning comic shop right here in Chicago! Great selection, friendly vibe, amazing events and signings, and hardcore geeky knowledgeable staff. Very kid friendly, an actual separate room full of kid friendly books.
The only thing they don't have is a giant wall of back issues in long boxes. If you're looking for a book you read in 1994 go elsewhere, for something newer come here.
Great comic shop always full of fun stuff, and very friendly for families, new readers, or anyone else!
Unlike a typical comic book store. It's ckean, bright and they let you read. The owners try and match customers to new and interesting books. Plus they have a great kid's section.
Nicest two store owners in the neighborhood. Always willing to help and always have what I'm looking for!
Pat and Dal don't just love comics, they love their customers. Over the years I've watched them build their shop into one of the greatest gems of the Chicago comics scene and the comics biz as a whole. Unlike any other comic shop, Challengers is the place where you don't just want to go to buy comics but where you where you want to hang out and chat about them as well. I love these guys! It's an honor to know them!
Challengers is the ONLY comic shop I go to in Chicago. Great, knowledgeable, friendly staff, amazing selection, bright, clean store and a full room of kids comics. Also, more graphic novels than anyone else, hands down. And the won the Will Eisner Spirit Award after being in business for only 5 years! BEST IN THE WORLD!
This is not just what a comic shop should be (it is), it's what any shop should be. Bright, open, welcoming and comfortable. And the owners are engaging and knowledgeable
Challenger's has become a home away from home in the time we've been going there. Patrick, Dal, and all of the Challengers are always welcoming and friendly. Our kids love it there, too, especially since Sidekicks has all of the comics they could ever want. We've never gotten a bad recommendation from them, so if you are looking for something to read, make sure you hit them up!
