CorePower Yoga DVDs

OM AT HOME After my love letter to the classes at CorePower Yoga a few months ago, my yoga habit fizzled a bit. You see, I couldn’t make it to enough classes to pay for one of the package deals on offer, and the $18 drop-in fee was too pricey to justify more than one class a week. To the rescue: the studio’s new line of DVDs, with different class options for beginner (C1) to advanced students (C2, C3), as well as Hot Power Fusion and—my personal fave—Yoga Sculpt. Led by instructors who stand in front of a faux outdoor landscape backdrop helping yogis through moves, the DVDs are a solid workout that will leave you limber, clearheaded and centered. Loyal CPYers will recognize the poses, flowing series and even the order of exercises—not to mention the upbeat, Zen-inducing-yet-not-too-out-there vibe the instructors employ. All these factors make it feel as if you’re in a legit CorePower class. Of course, unless your TV room has a fireplace, lofted ceilings, views of downtown Chicago and dark wood floors, the ambience isn’t the same. And there’s nothing like having a real instructor help you into stances and lead you through meditations. But for the price of one drop-in class, this is a seriously awesome alternative to the real thing. DVDs are $18 each at corepoweryoga.com and at studio boutiques: 555 W Roosevelt Rd (312-829-9642, corepoweryoga.com), 12 W Maple St (312-266-9642).
