What sets Ghirardelli apart from other sweet shops is that you can usually choose your poison in either bar or scoop form. The Intense Dark sundaes (spawned from the chocolate bar series of the same name) mix cocoa-heavy chocolate with flavors such as espresso, raspberry and mint chip. The parlor’s ’50s-era decor, which includes wood pretzel-backed chairs and white marble–topped tables, is a fun spot to sip milkshakes, root-beer floats and coffee, but you can also take your treat out to the tables in front.
