Inkling Shop
Photograph: Jaclyn Rivas

Inkling focuses on affordable art and locally made crafts, such as headbands by Charlotte de France ($12), poise.cc handbags ($30–$80) and limited-edition prints from Paper Parasol Press ($25). And because no gift shop is complete without stationery, the store also stocks plenty of greeting-card options. Look for events in the space, and one of the walls is dedicated to a rotating roster of artists.

I have been coming in to Inkling since it opened in 2010; I practically get all my gifts here. The store has a great selection of local and original art, cards, jewelry and little gifts. This is a spot on my usual Sunday Stroll route, I go just to look around but usually end up picking something out. I also love how the store hosts gallery openings every so often to introduce a new artist that is featured there. I love the owner too, she is great to talk with and is always nice and helpful. This is a great spot and definitely should be checked out if your on Broadway!

I tell the owner every time I walk in this shop that I hate it for taking all my money. This store is one of my guilty pleasures in the city - it doesn't matter if I'm just going to walk in for a couple minutes to look around or if I walk in with a purpose and one item in mind. Regardless I'm going to spend my money. And not because it's too pricey! But because every card, piece of jewelry, print, book, etc. is unique and beautiful and has a place in my life. This is a great place to find a gift for friends / family / loved ones and to find a treat for yourself while you're there. Plus, if you sign up for the mailing list you'll get updates (not too often - so it's not annoying) about special events and new merch in the shop. Be prepared to want to take everything home.
