Peace together

We play mad scientist by cherry-picking our favorite features of spas across the city. Result: the Franken-spa of our dreams.

Meditation room at Allyu SpaRather than the traditional relaxation area outfitted with lounge chairs and stacks of Glamour, Allyu Spa offers a more spiritual alternative: a candle-lit meditation room under a tent. Cushioned benches are arranged in the vaguely circular shape of the Chakana (a Peruvian symbol that signifies community), surrounded by deities and encircling an altar of crystals.

Shop at Ruby Room
Inside this cozy Bucktown venue, you’ll find a beautifully curated selection of beauty and wellness products—think makeup, bath salts, jewelry, scarves, candles and more. We’re particularly smitten with the recently launched collection of Ruby Room–branded Flower and Gem aromatherapy sprays.

Lounge at Peninsula Hotel Spa
Cushy reclining chairs outfitted with cozy duvets, a roaring fireplace, lofty ceilings, dark wood floors, stacks of mags to lose yourself in…yeah, the waiting is almost as relaxing as the service.

Treatment room at Spa Chakra
The entryway’s glowing iridescent pillars contrast with the minimalist, white- and blond-wood aesthetic that’s present throughout the spa and its airy treatment rooms, creating a hip yet oh-so-Zen vibe that totally puts us in the mood to get pampered. Bonus: You change and store your clothes and personal items in locked cubbies in your room, so you don’t even have to bother walking to a locker room or see other spa-goers. Ultraluxe.

The view at Bliss Spa
Any view of Lake Michigan is pretty spectacular, but when you take it in as you enter this eighth-floor spa at the W Chicago–Lakeshore (and also in the lounge areas), it’s extra special. Glancing at the relaxing, calm blue waves of the lake is the perfect way to get in the mind-set for a, uh, blissful treatment.

Sleeping pod at Thousand Waves Spa for Women
After a relaxing body wrap or dip in the bubbling hot tub, all you really want to do is take a nap. Good thing Thousand Waves offers a handful of partially enclosed sleeping pods where you can curl up and doze off before returning to the real world.

Tea at Spa@theWit
Sure, we never stop raving about the rich, complimentary brownies at Bliss, but the chocolate-scented organic raspberry truffle tea at this quaint lounge smells just as delicious.

Locker room at the Spa at Trump
Reserve a minimum of 20 minutes in the locker room to appreciate the full Trump appeal, from the plush robe and slippers to the fancy sugar scrubs and lotions. Honestly, though, it’s all about the size-of-a-studio-apartment deluge shower, which allows you to customize everything from water pressure and temperature to the number of shower heads and lighting color.
